Erica & Tyler’s Colorful Summer Wedding at Rivermill

Erica and Tyler’s Rivermill wedding in Au Gres, Michigan was a colorful summer celebration filled with bright florals, playful details, and so many genuine moments between the two of them and the people they love. The historic property created the perfect backdrop for their day, combining weathered industrial details, rustic wood, and a warm reception space with a wedding design that was anything but neutral.
Erica wore a fitted white wedding gown with a plunging neckline, open sides, and delicate pearl detailing at the waist. Her soft, romantic updo paired beautifully with the simplicity of her dress and let the colorful details surrounding her stand out. Tyler complemented her in a white shirt, tan pants, brown leather suspenders, and a floral bow tie that tied perfectly into the bright colors woven throughout the wedding.
Their details were one of my favorite parts of the day. Vibrant shades of pink, red, yellow, orange, and green appeared throughout the florals and vintage-inspired pieces, with tiny disco balls adding an unexpected touch of fun. Even their wedding ring photographs embraced the color, with Erica’s deep red center stone photographed among bright flowers and their rings incorporated into creative flat lays with their invitation, jewelry, floral fabrics, and Tyler’s suspenders.
Rivermill gave us so many interesting spaces for portraits. Erica and Tyler laughed together beside the property’s massive corrugated metal structures, creating photographs that blended the industrial history of the venue with the softness of their wedding attire. Rather than feeling overly posed, their portraits captured the way they naturally interacted with each other, from Erica reaching up to hold Tyler’s face to the two of them laughing together between photographs.
Inside, the reception space was transformed by hundreds of warm string lights stretched across exposed wooden beams. Colorful hanging floral installations, glass globes, greenery, and bright table arrangements brought their playful wedding palette into the historic barn while still allowing the character of Rivermill to shine through. Guests gathered around the tables, talked, laughed, and settled into a reception that felt relaxed and genuinely celebratory.
Their dessert table continued the colorful, laid-back feeling of the day with a simple white wedding cake decorated with flowers alongside cupcakes and individual pies. Erica’s reaction while Tyler cut the cake made the moment even better, turning what could have been a traditional reception detail into another candid part of their story.
As the evening continued, Erica and Tyler shared their first dance beneath the warm glow of the string lights before dancing with their family members. Those quieter moments quickly gave way to a packed dance floor filled with friends, family, colorful DJ lighting, drinks in hand, and plenty of singing and dancing. From Tyler dipping Erica in the middle of the floor to family hugs and everyone crowding together for songs, the reception was full of the kind of unscripted moments that make a wedding gallery feel alive.
Erica and Tyler’s wedding was a celebration of color, personality, and the people who matter most to them. Their bright florals and vintage-inspired details felt completely at home against Rivermill’s rustic and industrial setting, while the laughter, hugs, dancing, and little interactions throughout the day made it unmistakably theirs. It was exactly the kind of Michigan wedding I love documenting: personal, relaxed, a little unexpected, and full of moments that tell the story far beyond the traditional wedding-day photographs.
